Our Vision
Not just books! Libraries today are lively centers welcoming people for learning, recreation, education, friendship and community spirit.
Imagine the future of Weston Library — full of natural light, bright and welcoming. A vital part of Weston.
Here’s what can happen at our new Library:
Friends are meeting for coffee or to attend a Library event
Preschoolers are tumbling in for story hour
Older children are sitting together to work on homework
A community group is holding a hybrid meeting using state-of-the-art technology
The Weston Historical Society is organizing documents chronicling the history of Weston
Two old friends are admiring a display that features local artists
More frequent programming has brought more families to the Library and to Weston
A patron is on a telemedicine call
More people are using the newly accessible computers to access the internet for virtual work
Riverside Park is filled with children excited about a magic show. People are sitting on benches, reading, and enjoying the view of the river
That’s our vision — a Library that respects and honors the past while moving into the future, free and open to all; a vibrant community place in the center of Weston village where people come to share ideas, participate in community programs and access essential civic, educational and internet resources.
“I came to the community meeting thinking
the library is just a building.
I now realize the library is
more than just a building.
It is both a space and an institution
in the community that allows for
creativity, inclusion and learning.”
— A Weston resident who attended a Library community input session
Where We Are Now
Since 1874 Wilder Memorial Library has been an important resource for Weston, housed since 1909 in its current 200-year old building.
Today we have books, DVDs, periodicals, programs, and a welcoming staff eager to held whoever comes in the door.
The building is a treasure with its intricate woodworking stunning memorial windows, buts its size and lack of amenities limit the Library’s impact.
At a minimum, the building needs ADA accessibility throughout, foundation and brickwork repairs, electrical and HVAC updating, energy efficient windows, a bathroom and running water, greater flood resiliency, and more space (currently, there’s only 740 usable square feet).
The Library is a beloved and integral part of the community. We’re excited about the renovation and expansion, ensuring the vitality of the Library for the community for years to come.
