Update on Building Plans

May 2024

We are delighted to keep you up to date on the progress of our building project. Now that we have conceptual drawings, it is time to get into the nitty gritty of what the space—inside and out--will actually look like. What materials? What features? What finishes? What colors?

The Design and Build Committee has divided into 5 subcommittees to handle these questions. The first subcommittee – landscaping and exterior areas including parking – met with architect Ryan Foster and his landscape architect, Anna Johansen. We walked the land and talked about what plans we have for using the parcel which abuts the West River, known as Riverside. We talked about trees, shrubs, places to sit, places for children to play, places for programs and events, and a way to take advantage of both the energy and tranquility of the West River.

With the information in hand, Ryan and his team will come up with a plan for the property. It was very exciting. The other 4 subcommittees will be meeting over the next month. Stay tuned.

Thank you for your continued support and interest.

If you want to learn more about how you can help with the project, please contact Jessica Clapp.

Carolyn Mullett: Weston Librarian for 31 Years!

Carolyn Mullett was the librarian for 31 years. When she began, there were no telephones or computers. The office equipment included an ancient typewriter and the books were chosen by a committee which bought the books and before adding them to the collection read them to check for suitability.

During her tenure, Carolyn saw the addition of telephones, children's room, new bookcases, garden, computers and the elimination of the book buying committee.

Carolyn is an avid gardener. She was the organist for the Old Parish Church for 34 years and is still frequently called upon to fill in.

When asked what she thinks about the library expansion project, Carolyn answered with an enthusiastic, “It‘s great!”

We thank Carolyn for her years of dedication and continued support of the library.

Spring is in Full Bloom at the Library!

“This is the most exceptional library in the country!!” exclaimed a recent visitor. Of course, we couldn’t agree more. If you haven’t stopped by this spring, pop in to say hello, sign up for a library card, borrow a book or our family day pass to Hildene, or enjoy one of our upcoming programs, such as:

  • S’moreytime!

  • Knitting Workshops for Kids

  • Murders & Mysteries (book chat for adults)

  • Summer Reading Program (for kids, teens and adults!)

Art-making programs with Casey Junker Bailey

  • Raptor Road Trip with VINS (live raptors!)

See you soon at the Library!
