Update on Conceptual Plans

April 2024

I am excited to report the next phase of our Library’s ambitious building project is underway.

We now have conceptual plans. Ryan Foster, our architect, listened to what the community wanted in a new library and has given us conceptual drawings for a beautiful addition to our Library.

The design is in keeping with the historic architecture and feel of our existing Library and the Weston village.

The plans include enough area for all that the community asked for: community meeting space, accessibility with an entrance ramp and indoor lift, a bathroom, access to technology, more parking, comfortable seating, space for an expanded collection, display space for art and historical materials, and more space for programming for all ages.

Conceptual plans show the basic outlines of the building structures and interiors. The next step is for Ryan to prepare construction drawings which give a more detailed look at the space. Construction drawings will take several months to prepare. Then permitting, putting the project out to bid, and breaking ground. Stay tuned for the next update.

Thank you all for your continued support and interest.

Community Input Meetings Garnered Great Ideas & Support

We recently shared the Library’s renovation and expansion plans with the community at two meetings attended by 80 people to get feedback on how to use the indoor and outdoor spaces.

We were delighted when a dozen children showed up to show their love and support of the Library!

Community members expressed desire for enough space for books, programs, and meetings. Other ideas included comfy seating for reading and socializing, tables and outlets for working and studying, high level tech, acoustically-protected quiet space, and space for kids & teens to hang out and have fun (and be noisy).

Expanded hours to meet the needs of different constituents was also discussed. A key theme was FLEXIBILITY: moveable bookshelves and furniture to enable usage of the spaces in different ways. People also looked forward to enjoying the new park along the West River with outdoor seating and programming.
